Kingston Foreshore, Canberra ACT
Dockside is one of a pair of buildings that forms the central focus of the Kingston Foreshore in much the same way the Sydney and Melbourne buildings are a central focus for the City Centre. Just as these first buildings in Civic were built as a mix of small local businesses, Dockside provides an open and accessible public ground floor for local businesses of this nature.
The development is four storeys with rooftop elements of up to six storeys, set behind a defined parapet line. The lower levels are grounded with a solid brick façade that has large openings out onto the waterfront promenade and onto laneways and arcades linking the community through to the waterfront. The architectural language has a raw industrial edge with references to traditional wharf buildings and the “P&O” style.
