Gungahlin Oval Grandstand
Gungahlin, Canberra ACT
ACT Territory & Municipal Services
Great care has been taken to integrate the Gungahlin Enclosed Oval into the Wellbeing Precinct and surrounding context. The feature façade of the pavilion addresses the main entry, and forms an attractive backdrop to the Crinigan Circle streetscape. Pedestrian movement through to the oval and grandstand occurs through the openings formed by the four pavilion building modules.
The grandstand structure seats approximately 1400 spectators. This structure is created from four equal modules of seating. The grandstand forms the roof of the pavilion buildings below. The pavilion buildings are accessed from ground level and house facilities such as player change rooms, public toilets, function room, canteen, and other uses.
The grandstand roof is a minimal steel cantilevered structure with Ritek cladding. The west façade of the pavilion buildings is concrete at low height, opening to a tall glass and louvered façade to the top of the grandstand. This provides filtered light into the rooms below whilst maintaining privacy and security to these spaces.
