Description
DOMA Group had the vision for a comprehensive, high quality and sustainable mixed-use development including a flagship 5 Star Hotel located in the parliamentary triangle. Following our success in the Kingston Foreshore Competition, we were invited to present concepts for the two-and-a-half-hectare site in Barton. The Precinct includes 75,000 sqm of development including 8,000 sqm of commercial use, 300 residential dwellings and 230 hotel rooms.
The core planning concept was built upon the principles that underpinned the Kingston Foreshore project, that is; allowing the existing street structure and layout to generate the urban pattern, and the adoption of a mixed land use philosophy. We aimed to optimise the development density on the site while adding value to the public realm by creating a new linked series of parks and meeting places.
From project inception, equal value was placed on the creation of a new public realm as well as the design of the buildings that would define that public realm. By opening up the site to greater public access a range of community benefits have been realised, including the creation of a new urban edge to the perimeter streets and a new central park.
