Description
Stewart Architecture is designing a childcare, medical and community facility in the heart of Wright. The project includes a 113-place childcare for Little Penguins together with a four-storey medical and wellness hub. The two buildings face onto a community plaza designed in collaboration with Harris Hobbs. This water-smart landscape includes a coffee square and dry creek bed with rocks and natural features encouraging play.
The medical building includes ground level retail tenancies addressing the plaza, two levels of car parking and a 200sqm community space opening onto a rooftop terrace. The facility has been designed to promote health and wellbeing with a generous central staircase, interconnecting voids and access to balconies on each level. Typical floor plates are flexible to facilitate provision of a range of health services including medical imagery, day surgery and consultation.
The childcare building is a playful response to the geometry of the site with integrated fencing wrapping three outdoor play zones. All learning spaces have been designed with a direct relationship to outdoor play. The native landscape includes a forest, log elements and sand pits to foster curiosity and exploration.
